Alison Rusk

Marriage and Family Therapist

I was born and raised in the southeast suburbs of the twin cities. I called Alexandria, MN my second home my entire life. My grandparents retired here, and I was fortunate to spend many weekends and summertimes enjoying the relaxed "lake life" with family. My husband and I decided to make Alexandria our home in 2017 and have enjoyed every minute of it! I am a wife, mother, and a christian. My faith is the foundation of my drive to be as helpful to others as I am able. I believe the mind and body have an inherent ability to heal, but we often experience many variables that get in the way. As a therapist, I view my responsibility as helping to identify and address those individual variables that are hindering the healing process. My approach to therapy is very client-centered, letting the individual needs of my clients forge the path to healing.

I obtained my undergraduate degree from Minnesota State University, Mankato where I double majored in Psychology and Alcohol and Drug Studies. Prior to graduating, I completed a six month internship in both inpatient and outpatient chemical dependence settings. It was in these internship experiences that I decided to pursue a license in marriage and family therapy. I obtained my graduate degree from Saint Mary's University of Minnesota in Marriage and Family Therapy. As I continued to gain experience as a therapist, I found myself noticing common threads of hopelessness and a sense of lack of control toward mental health. It was this, and my own personal health journey, that fueled my decision to go back for more schooling. I obtained a graduate degree from the American College of Healthcare Sciences in Complementary and Alternative Medicine with a focus in holistic nutrition. I am very excited and passionate about integrating the knowledge and skills gained in my educational and professional experiences to promote the health and healing of the clients that I work with!

Kymberly Stephens

Professional Counselor (LPC, LMHC)

I believe that the most effective way to heal is in relationship. That is why my main focus is on creating a safe and non-judgmental environment for my clients to explore what it is like to take risks and be vulnerable in the presence of another. I know that I can only take my clients as far as I have gone myself, and that is why I continue to actively participate in my own personal therapy, healing, and recovery work.

Amanda Thomas

Marriage and Family Therapist

Over the past 20 years, I have maintained my approach to systemic therapy. I continue to delve deeply into the relational and emotional world of connection and healing. I ensure healing is relationally ethical, grounded in science and encompasses our full systems of within and the complex dynamics generated between ourselves and those we are connecting. And to ensure a meaningful and mutually beneficial healing connection.
Since 2007, I have combined my life experiences in sports coaching, camps, outdoor intervention programs, psychology and marriage and family therapy to establish my private practice working with couples and families around the country to heal relationships.
Raised in Pennsylvania, I studied psychology and management at Gettysburg College. After traveling overseas, I chose to complete my graduate degree in New Zealand. I studied the psychological outcomes of outdoor interventions for my Masters at University of Otago, Dunedin. What I discovered is the relationships between the adolescents and the guides had the greatest impact in creating positive change and improving their self-esteem. I also learned how gender differs when it comes to outcomes.
Upon completion of my Masters, I returned to Pennsylvania to be an assistant coach for the men's volleyball team at Juniata College while also facilitating experiential programming & managing facilities for environmental centers.
I moved west to pursue a career in wilderness therapy after a NOLS course in Arizona. There, I was a field guide at Aspen Achievement Academy and went on to be assistant director of family services where I worked with parents during the reunion process facilitating multi family groups and developed and implemented family assessments.
Completing my Marriage and Family Therapy (MFT) degree at Denver Family Institute informs a large part of how I help families and couples. I worked under Jim Thomas, LMFT to complete my coursework while simultaneously working for a company to develop aftercare and transition programs throughout Colorado and nationally.
Since 2015, I have focused my professional development in attachment-based therapy. Completing extensive trainings in Emotionally Focused Therapy, Interpersonal Neurobiology, Attachment-Based Family Therapy and Brainspotting; access to the deep internal experiences of relationships has been the greatest craft honored to me. In 2017, I began a journey of self-exploration of the neuroscience of moral development enhancing my ethical approach to serving my clients.
Personally, I love living in a small rural community with all of the natural awe offered to my senses. Living among lakes, rivers, mountains, and the culture of the west.
Presently with Cobalt Family Consulting, I specialize in working with couples and families nationwide, facilitating healing in relationships and providing leadership on their journeys of recovery and connection. Drawing from my diverse life experiences in coaching, outdoor leadership, and marriage and family therapy, I have established myself as a professional and compassionate clinical consultant. Additionally, in my private practice I continue to provide couples and family intensives as well as customized immersions and Supervision to developing professionals and organizations.
My foundation in Marriage and Family Therapy (MFT) from Denver Family Institute informs a significant portion of my approach to assisting families and couples. During my time working in therapeutic programs with adolescents, I observed remarkable transformations in the children, yet families often lacked adequate support and guidance. I firmly believe that family members desire and require healing alongside their loved ones, and I prioritize navigating the complexities of relationships ethically with my clients.
Over the past two decades, I have been dedicated to ensuring that the entire family receives appropriate support throughout their journey.

Jennifer Beich

Professional Counselor (LPC, LMHC)

I graduated with my MA in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Liberty University and began my counseling journey in Ohio. We are an Air Force family, and my husband is an active-duty Psychiatrist. I am a devoted mother to my 15- and 12-year-old kids and enjoy hiking trails and coffee on the porch.

I may not be your typical talk therapist as I believe in a “bottom up” versus “top down” path to healing, which simply means that I help my clients bravely go to the foundation, or roots, of where their trials reside. This foundation is found in areas of the brain and body that don’t speak plain “English,” yet have a clear story to tell. Through the foundation-first approach, and the use of therapies such as Brainspotting or IFS (parts work), you may finally experience lasting freedom from trauma and the anxiety, depression, and even associated physical pain that came with it. Above all else, I am a person-centered counselor and strive to provide a comfortable environment for you in counseling as a place where you can be free – free to be truly authentic, fully seen, and safely vulnerable.

Experiencing trauma, or any difficulty, is deeply personal, and each one of us experience life in ways unique only to us. Because of this, to be trusted with your story is a privilege I do not take lightly. To walk with you toward healing is a great honor.

I have extended experience working with childhood trauma, domestic abuse, and chronic emotional suffering. I love helping my clients move away from shame towards freedom.

There are no easy fixes. However, with a collaborative approach, we’ll identify what needs to change in your life to break free from the thoughts, habits, history, and current situations causing you pain. I believe that meaningful change happens when we have a strong sense of self-compassion, a deep understanding of ourselves, and a clear sense of our wants and needs. I work primarily with adults experiencing anxiety, depression, life transitions, & self-esteem concerns. I have a particular interest in doing long-term therapy, with a focus on developmental & generational trauma.

Laurie LaQuey

Social Worker

Hi! I'm Pam and I can help decrease your trauma symptoms if they interfere or disrupt your day to day life. I truly enjoy working with others who have experienced traumatic events in their lives. I use a phenomenal trauma treatment, called Brainspotting. I can attest to its effectiveness, because it worked for me.
I am a survivor of trauma and after I experienced Brainspotting, my flashbacks and visceral reactions to triggers decreased…a lot. Not only that, but they don't impact me nearly as much in my day to day life. I find that I am less angry, more relaxed and peaceful. Life just seems a little easier now. I would love to help make that happen for you!
I understand the symptoms of trauma and how it impacts our lives. I lived with fear, exaggerated startle responses, guilt and anger for decades. My goal is to alleviate that pain and suffering for you.
